This time has been challenging for many of us Boss Moms because we’re out of our normal routines, and we’ve experienced the frustration of dealing with altered, shifted and even broken routines.

Routines are incredibly valuable to our performance, and when we don’t have them, things can be incredibly hard for our children and even for us. We need a structure to rely on, keep us moving forward and even to give us some freedom.

Why are routines so important to the way we tick as parents, business owners and families? What are the 4 core aspects of building an effective and personalized working routine as a working mom?

In this episode, blogger, speaker and founder of I Swear I Love My Kids, Allison Braasch, talks about her WAKE system and how she uses it to help moms create  routines that work for them.

Psychologically, having a routine helps us get through certain things. Knowing we have a routine to fall back on helps us breathe. -Allison Braasch

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • How routines lead us to more freedom and creativity
Routines are as much for parents as they are for our kids because it gives us something to rely on. Getting a routine down is the first step, once it’s ingrained in us and our kids, we can now start to alter and create moments of freedom. It can give us the space to show creativity, initiative and confidence.

  • Why routines need to be formed around our individuality
Before habit and routine formation, we need to start with reading the kind of people we are. Everyone functions differently, so we all need routines that work with who we are and how we want to be held accountable. It’s important to find out how you respond to expectations internally and externally, and then we can create a routine that makes sense for us around that.

  • Why space for our own mental health matters right now
Especially at a time like this, when our kids are learning from home and everyone is more confined, our mental health as parents is so important. We need to have time for ourselves to recenter and refocus, and we can condition our kids to give us that time.
