As parents, our goal is to raise kids we actually want to hang out with, but often traditional schooling doesn't encourage inquisitiveness, wit, play and creativity.

We can introduce these elements at home, and allow our kids to develop 360-degree, surround sound thinking. This will benefit them their whole lives, and it can all begin with a good board game. How do we raise intellectual children? How does play help in academic areas and vice versa?

In this episode, I’m joined by CEO of Success Academy Charter Schools, and author of “A+ PARENTING: THE SURPRISINGLY FUN GUIDE TO RAISING SURPRISINGLY SMART KIDS”, Eva Moskowitz. She shares simple ways parents can impact how their kids think, and make it an enjoyable experience.

If you’re raising intellectual children, parenting is so much more pleasurable. -Eva Moskowitz

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

-Finding the right things for our kids to watch

Many parents are worried about the impact movies and shows can have on their kids, but can certain content actually be good for them?

-Create an intellectual moment and bonding opportunity

What’s the difference between occupying our kids and engaging with them?

-How to model curiosity and inquisitiveness

Kids are actually interested in details and specialized knowledge. How do we share what we know with them?

Infertility is a struggle so many women deal with privately, and even though medical protocols can help, they aren’t the solution for everyone. Modern medicine has made us forget that our bodies are made to heal themselves. We’re taught to normalize dis-regulation in our bodies and then use Band-Aid solutions instead of getting to the root cause.

How do we tune into our bodies and advocate for ourselves? How did our guest heal her body and go from a 1% chance of getting pregnant to a mom of 4 kids?

In this episode, Infertility Coach, Author and Publisher, Erica Hoke shares her journey to motherhood, and why the medical route isn’t always the best way to solve infertility.

You have to tune into not just pushing through what you’re feeling. -Erica Hoke

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

-Your body is made to mend itself

Modern medicine’s approach to infertility is manipulating your body to get you pregnant. Why is it critical to get to the root cause of infertility?

-Advocate for yourself

How do we confidently take charge of what’s in our control and what we’re responsible for when it comes to our health?

-Learning to listen to your pain, discomfort and dis-regulation

How has Erica built a movement of doing what works for our own health according to what our bodies are telling us?

Guest Bio

Erica Hoke is an Author, Publisher, Infertility Mentor & Empowerment Coach who's on a mission to empower infertility patients and disrupt the reproductive medical system.

At 35, Erica was told she had less than a 1% chance of ever conceiving naturally after struggling for years with endometriosis, uterine fibroids, PCOS, thyroid disease, factor 5 Leiden and MTHFR - so she refused to participate in traditional IVF or IUI methods and instead committed to getting to the bottom of her infertility issues via diet, lifestyle changes and traditional Chinese medicine. Today this fierce mom of four shares her inspiring story as a means to give hope to those still seeking a family through alternate paths. Through her free support group, group coaching opportunities and one-on-one sessions Erica mentors’ others through their own journeys while teaching them how to collaborate with their doctors in order to systematically address their obstacles before pursuing invasive and expensive treatments.

For those who have battled and overcome infertility, Erica offers an opportunity to heal through book collaborations and the sharing of their stories - all in the hopes of helping others on their journeys.

Being surrounded by people who genuinely care about us is so important for human beings, but sadly, it’s rare. Far too many people walk around feeling unsupported, unseen and broken.

Creating connection and building communities where they feel cared for, rooted for and seen makes such a huge impact on how they show up in the world.

How do we build communities where people feel at home right off the bat? Why do we have to shift from being the teachers to being the facilitators?

In this episode, Certified Life Coach, and the Connections Director at Nurture to Convert®, Nicole Terrell joins me to talk about the importance of community, and how to go about building it.

We are so busy all the time that we also don’t recognize the power of someone just seeing you. -Dana Malstaff

-An individual isn’t scalable, but a community is

When we step away from being the teacher and the center of our community, how does that multiply our reach?

-Being stuck is a rite of passage

-You get to be the person that heals people

How do we help people feel less judged, broken, unseen and lonely?

A few years ago, the answer to growing a business was adding a bunch of value and doing all the teaching and training yourself. Today, if we want our audience to hang around, fall in love with us, share us, have loyalty and buy from us, we have to build communities.

How do we make people validated, valued and also create connection with shared beliefs and a vision for the future?

In this episode, I talk about the easiest way to grow our businesses and build a loyal audience.

If you want to grow your business nowadays, the name of the game isn’t to create a bunch of value, it’s to facilitate people feeling valued. -Dana Malstaff

The journey of growing our businesses is anything but a straight line. We evolve, change our minds, and things shift in our worlds. We’ll go through stages of figuring things out, reworking things and pivoting and that’s totally okay! That journey builds up a toolkit that makes our communities stronger.

How do we figure out if we’re in the right niche and talking to the right people? How do we stop feeling bad about pivoting and moving into new ideas?

In this episode, returning guest and founder of Motherhood Simplified, Krista Lockwood returns to give us a peek into her evolution and share why it’s okay for our ideas to change.

-Sharing from our wounds vs. our scars

How do we know if it’s too early to start teaching something even if we’re passionate about it?

In this episode, I share a simple exercise that will set us up for a strong finish this year.

World-renowned celebrity love strategist and the founder of Love Strategies Adam LoDolce joins me to talk about understanding how men love, the correlation between business and relationships and how to be happier and more fulfilled in a relationship.

Language, our vocal pitches and accents are the ultimate marker of identity. The words we speak and how we say them affect how people perceive us and even our ability to build authority.

As parents, there are facets of our kids' vocabulary that we might not get, like why they say ‘sus’ and ‘fire’, but these words actually reveal a lot about history, culture and identity.

How does language evolve over time? What linguistic features are unique to women, and how can we use them to our advantage?

In this episode, I’m joined by professor of linguistics and author of LIKE, LITERALLY, DUDE, Valerie Fridland.

We have a fascinating conversation about interesting things about speech, language and how we communicate.

What we find in language is the unexpected, the novel is always more powerful than the same old, same old, and that is one of the main drivers of change. -Valerie Fridland

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

- It’s not bad English, it’s the evolution of English

As parents, we might think our kids using words like ‘sus’ and ‘fire’ are decaying the language, but are these truncations completely normal?

- How to be heard the way you want

Women have developed strategies to be polite and still get themselves heard. How do we take advantage of beliefs people have about vocal pitch?

- Vocal fry and “Valley Girl accents”

Are some of the things that are seen as annoying and negative actually a way for women to have more authority?

As parents, what we do each and every day impacts our children. Even if we have the best intentions, when we have baggage and normalize our own pain, it affects them.

Working on ourselves is a powerful step towards being the parents we want to be, and that starts with unraveling our own trauma and baggage.

How can we work on ourselves without adding a lot more stuff on our plates? How do we become the foundation of how our kids see the world?

In this episode, I’m joined by generational integrity coaches, energy guides for parents and co-founders of The Parent Empowerment Movement, Jenny Murtagh and Felicia Severhill. They share how parents can do the inner work so we raise our children the way we want to.

Seeing how we live our lives is how our kids gauge reality and ultimately create the lives they want.

If we make them feel like parenthood means giving up what we love, that’s what they’ll believe. If we show them that we can have things we’re passionate about, they’ll follow that example.

Being mothers, business owners and everything else in our lives certainly isn’t easy, and that’s okay. The more honest we are about that and the less we obsess over balance, the better the journey gets.

In this episode, I’m joined by professional climber, conservation entrepreneur, founder of Legado and the author of “More: Life on the Edge of Adventure and Motherhood”, Majka Burhardt. We talk about her journey, what she wants to teach her kids and the power of deconstructing and reinventing everything.

Seeking balance means that one day we’ll achieve it and be perfect. Motherhood made me realize that everything exists together and it’s always moving. -Majka Burhardt

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

- Do it with joy, but also with honesty

We all have different aspects to our identity. How does motherhood color those things and how we show up in all our roles?

- Take yourself on an adventure

How did Majka choose what life, motherhood and entrepreneurship looked like for her without following convention?

- It’s okay if our kids aren’t insanely passionate about anything

There’s a lot of pressure around the idea of having a passion. Does that do a disservice to our children?

Guest Bio

Majka Burhardt is a professional climber, conservation entrepreneur, author, and filmmaker. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Legado and the author of Vertical Ethiopia: Climbing Toward Possibility in the Horn of Africa, which was short-listed for the Banff Book Award, as well as her latest book, More: Life on the Edge of Adventure and Motherhood, a Next Big Idea Club must-read.

More: Life on the Edge of Adventure and Motherhood is an intense and emotional epistolary memoir by one of the world's top ice climbers, born at the confluence of motherhood, adventure, career, and marriage. As leading professional climbers and mountain guides, Majka Burhardt and her husband led globe-trotting, adventure-seeking lives. When she learns that she’s pregnant—with twins—Burhardt at first tries to balance her pursuit of extreme risk with her new reality of maternal responsibility. However, she is ultimately forced to face the avalanche of emotions unleashed by the biggest disruption she’s ever confronted—in the mountains or otherwise. Based on the letters and journals Burhardt diligently kept over the course of her pregnancy and the first five years of her children’s lives, More takes the reader on an around-the-world journey as Burhardt explores the transformative, identity-shifting experience of motherhood and its irreversible impact on career, identity, marriage, and self.

Being a parent takes a massive amount of energy, love, time and commitment, but many of us yearn for that not to be the only legacy we have. We yearn to create meaningful things outside of our kids, and writing a book is one of the best ways to do that.

Being healthy isn’t just about looking good. It’s about feeling good in our bodies, having energy, being around for as long as possible and setting an example for our kids. Food is a huge part of health, and most of the time it feels like achieving it requires us to give up all the foods we love.

What if we could eat whatever we want, just managed intentionally, so we can still reach our goals? What are macros and why are they an easier way to track our nutrition?

In this episode, I’m joined by mother-daughter duo, Hilary Downey and Bridget Shinn. They share how their app Body By Hilary makes nutrition less overwhelming and restrictive so you can have that pizza guilt-free!

As a mom, I don’t want my kids to see me constantly at war with food and my body. -Hilary Downey

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

- A personal budget for your calories

How do we use macros to get optimum results?

- Don’t put the progress on a pedestal

Why is it so much easier to achieve our health goals when we focus on the habit, not the outcome?

- Give protein more attention
