‘Tis the season of goal setting for the new year, and as moms who have a million distractions all the time, it’s important to find the most efficient and effective way to get to where we want to go.

How do we set goals that are aligned with our capabilities? How do we build off of what worked this year? There will be moments where we’ll veer off the path, how do we get back on track when it happens?

In this episode, I share a plan that will help us accomplish our financial, environmental and emotional goals in 2022.

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • How to use the F-E-E test to set our goals

Why do we need to consider financial, environmental and emotional outcomes in our goal setting?

  • How to avoid goal setting strategies that make us feel overwhelmed and guilty

Not all strategies are created equal - how do we create a plan that we’ll actually follow through on?

  • The importance of creating a daily focus

What steps can we take to translate our overarching goals into daily actions?

As we near the start of a new year, many of us have begun thinking about what we want to achieve over the next 12 months, and for some, picking a ‘word of the year’ is their first port of call.

When we can narrow down everything we want to accomplish into just one word, that can become our guiding light throughout the year; our North Star that promises to not only keep us on track with our goals, but can also play a role in decision-making over the coming months.

The only problem is, picking just one word to encapsulate everything we want to achieve can be overwhelming in itself. Is it even possible to narrow our dreams down to such a degree? More importantly, is it really necessary?

In this episode, Matt Johnson returns to the show to share how he’s gotten better at defining his word of the year, and how it’s impacted his business.

Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • How to stay focused when we’re multi-passionate

Narrowing down our dreams to just one word is a great way to stay focused, but what happens when our dreams are all over the place? Is it even possible to be successful if we’re multi-passionate

  • 1 thing to consider when picking a word of the year

Is there a way we can ensure our word of the year continues to hold value for us over the full 12-month period?

  • How to pick our words of the year

Is there a fool-proof formula to picking a word of the year that genuinely resonates with us?

Niching down is by far the most effective way to make more money, while simultaneously making our lives easier, so it’s no surprise why so many business experts are all for narrowing our scopes.

The problem is, however, most of us already know this, but when it comes to actually carving out a niche, we’re more than a little hesitant.

What is it that’s stopping us from niching down? Is there ever a good reason to forgo finding a niche and simply aim to serve everybody?

In this episode, producer of the show and host of the MicroFamous podcast, Matt Johnson shares why most solopreneurs are reluctant to niche down, and why we need to do it anyway!

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • Why not niching down does our audience a disservice

How much value can we actually offer if we’re constantly trying to be everything to everyone?

  • How to get over the fear of there not being ‘enough’ people to serve

Is it really feasible to build a business so niche that only a very select group of people would buy in?

  • How to pinpoint a profitable niche

It’s one thing to serve a very specific audience. How can we be sure that audience has the means to buy what we’re selling?

Black Friday has come and gone, and I didn't do a sale this year. Why? I just didn't want to.

So many of us get wrapped up in doing seasonal sales because that's what we think we 'should' be doing, but we seldom give much thought to whether or not we actually want to do them. Ladies, I don't want that for us! Our lives should be full of the things we enjoy.

That being said, choosing not to follow the trends isn't always easy, especially if we're constantly seeing and hearing what everyone else is doing. How can we get better at focusing on what's important to us?

In this episode, I'm introducing the idea of business meditation, so we can stop feeling pressure to follow the trends and zone in on creating the kind of lives that bring us joy.

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • How to use meditation in our businesses

Many of us use meditation to re-center ourselves in our daily lives, but how could we apply the practice in our businesses?

  • The key to re-evaluating what we really need to do

How many opportunities are we actually losing out on by not following the trends, and what do we just think we're missing?

  • How to approach the tasks we do need to do (but don't want to)

Sometimes, there are things that have to be done, regardless of whether or not we enjoy them. Is there a way they could be handled without our direct involvement?

For most Boss Moms, taking two weeks off would put us two weeks behind. Wouldn’t it be great if our businesses got better even when we’re not there?

The great news is, that’s possible. We just have to think about our businesses from a different perspective, and shift from thinking day-to-day, to looking to what’s next.

That being said, that can be easier said than done. How can we think about the long-term and plan for it effectively, while staying focused on what needs to be done now?

In this episode, I’m introducing 2 concepts spoken about in the Nurture to Convert society: focus milestones and increasing your levels of norm.

3 Things You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • How to sidestep shiny object syndrome

Let’s face it, it’s tough to stay focused when shiny objects abound. How can we stay dialed in to what needs to be done, right now?

  • Why giving ourselves time to think is more helpful than we realize

Aside from short-term focus, how can letting our ideas marinate for a while benefit our businesses?

  • The key to increasing our levels of norm

We’re so used to thinking in terms of what our lives look like now, but what if we started thinking in terms of how those norms shift?
